How to use the initiative tracker
- Add your combatants. Enter a name and initiative. Hit points, armor class, and an initiative modifier are optional. Add a few creatures at once with the copies field.
- Start combat. Enter initiatives yourself or use Roll missing to roll a d20 plus the modifier for every blank initiative. Start combat sorts highest first. Ties keep their current order; use the arrow controls to resolve them as your table chooses.
- Run each turn. Select Next turn to advance through the order and count rounds. Apply damage or healing, mark conditions, and toggle concentration as you play. Undo reverses your most recent change.
- Come back next session. Your encounter saves automatically in this browser. Use Save party to keep a separate snapshot of player characters and allies, or Export to download a backup.
Built for the table
- Works on phones, tablets, and laptops with the site’s light or dark theme.
- Tracks current, maximum, and temporary HP. Damage uses temporary HP first; healing changes current HP only.
- Keeps combatants at 0 HP in the turn order so you can resolve death saves or other effects yourself.
- Lets you mark conditions and concentration without imposing automatic durations or saving throws. Adjudicate those at your table using your chosen rules.
- Supports both 2014 and 2024 games through manual tracking. It does not calculate initiative ties, surprise, death saves, or edition-specific condition effects.
Frequently asked questions
Is this initiative tracker free?
Yes. There is no account, subscription, or download required.
Where is my encounter saved?
Encounter data and your saved party stay in this browser on this device. The tracker does not upload your combatant names, HP, or notes. Regular site analytics still apply; see our privacy policy. Clearing site data or using a private browsing session can remove your saves. Export a backup for anything you want to keep.
Can I use it across devices or share a live encounter?
Export your encounter as a file, then import it on another device. Importing replaces that browser’s current encounter and saved party. Live synchronization and shared online rooms are not included.
How do I prepare for another encounter?
End combat returns to setup while keeping the roster and HP. You can edit initiatives, add or remove enemies, and start again. Load party replaces the roster with your saved party snapshot. Clear encounter removes the current roster while keeping that saved party.
