Credits & Licensing

DNDToolkit includes rules material from the System Reference Documents listed below. These credits apply to SRD material used throughout this website, including the encounter references and rules guides. Individual articles retain their source links and identify edition-specific rules where relevant.

System Reference Document 5.1

This work includes material taken from the System Reference Document 5.1 (“SRD 5.1”) by Wizards of the Coast LLC and available at https://dnd.wizards.com/resources/systems-reference-document. The SRD 5.1 is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License available at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode.

Download the Creative Commons edition of SRD 5.1.

SRD 5.1 supplies the 2014-compatible rules material used in our encounter creature references and in guides to classes, spells, combat, and other rules where that source is cited. The encounter collections use SRD 5.1 creature statistics; a separate discussion of revised rules does not change those encounters to the 2024 rules.

System Reference Document 5.2.1

This work includes material from the System Reference Document 5.2.1 (“SRD 5.2.1”) by Wizards of the Coast LLC, available at https://www.dndbeyond.com/srd. The SRD 5.2.1 is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License, available at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode.

Download SRD 5.2.1.

When an article cites SRD 5.2.1, that source supplies the revised rules material in the identified section, such as a 2024 class comparison. This attribution covers those excerpts and adaptations. Articles identify the sources used for their edition comparisons; a 2024 comparison does not by itself mean every rule on the page comes from SRD 5.2.1.

Adaptations and added material

DNDToolkit edits, summarizes, reorganizes, and formats SRD material for its guides and encounter references. Reproduced creature references normalize formatting and typography and may omit optional variants as explained on the encounter page. Any scene-specific changes or suggested variants are identified in the relevant article.

Our tactical advice, examples, character builds, encounter scenes, maps, and commentary are additions to the source material. They are not official rules or statements by Wizards. Article-specific modification notes and source citations remain part of the relevant article.

The SRD material remains available under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International. Section 5 of the license’s legal code contains a Disclaimer of Warranties and Limitation of Liability. The SRD license does not automatically apply to unrelated artwork, product photographs, site branding, or third-party material; any separate credits and licenses provided with those materials apply.

Unofficial fan content

For the site’s fan-content portions, the following notice applies alongside the separate SRD licensing above:

Downloadable maps

Our downloadable encounter maps include a visible link to this credits page. Creature rules referenced by the maps use SRD 5.1; map layouts, scenery, and encounter annotations are DNDToolkit additions. Keep the credits link with a map when sharing it so its source information remains available outside this website.
